Fear and Loathing on The Campaign Trail Essay -- essays research paper
Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail 72 was a book about a writer for the Rolling Stone and his reportage of the presidential elections in 1972. These elections were between the incumbent Republican, President Richard Nixon and the Senator from South Dakota, George McGovern. The election of 1972 saw McGovern come out of the democratic National Convention over Senators Muskie and Humphrey notwithstanding only to lose to the incumbent president Richard Nixon.Hunter S. Thompson writes about the Election of 1972 from December 1971, before any primaries, to December 1972 after Nixon has won the election. It is a reliable first person account of what happened during the presidential race that year with a good deal personal, side talk about Thompsons life, experiences, and his coverage four years agone about the 1968 election. Thompson writes this book in a unique style that he has made called Gonzo Journalism. This style of indite is a deeply personal style of writing and is in tru th opinionated. He does not give the facts on the election straight but instead gives his opinions on the people involved. It is a very subjective acme of view and shows Thompsons very liberal perspective. He is a strong supporter and is an enthusiast of the democratic candidate McGovern and shows time and time again how much he despises Nixon. Along with a very opinionated, subjective narrative, Thompson talks a lot about drug use. His point of view is from that from the drug underculture. Thompson is a very big drug us...

Rational Unified Process :: essays research papers
IntroductionThis paper has the intention to explain what Rational corporate plow (RUP) is like an IBM product and a CASE tool. After is explained what phases it has, what are the most common extensions thus what are its workflows more used. The Rational merge Process (RUP) is a parcel design method created by the Rational Software Corporation and now is part of IBM developer software. This paper describes how to deploy software effectively. The Rational Unified Process (RUP) use commercially proven techniques, and is a heavy weight process, and hence particularly applicable to larger software development teams working on large projects.Rational Unified Process (RUP)Rational Unified Process (RUP) is an object-oriented and Web-enabled schedule development methodology. RUP would be taken like an online mentor that provides guidelines, templates, and examples for all aspects and stages of program development. RUP is a comprehensive software engineering tool that combine the procedu ral aspects of development (such as defined stages, techniques, and practices) with other components of development (such as documents, models, manuals, code, and so on) within a unifying framework. The RUP defines the following guidelines and templates for team members to follow during a products lifecycleDevelop Software IterativelyGiven the time, it takes to develop large sophisticated software systems it not possible to define the problem and build the solution in a single step. Requirements will often change by dint ofout a projects development, collect to architectural constraints, customers needs or a greater understanding of the original problem. Iteration allows greater understanding of a project through successive refinements and addresses a projects highest happen items at every stage of its lifecycle. Ideally each iteration ends up with an executable release this helps reduce a projects risk profile, allows greater customer feedback and help developers stay focused.M anage RequirementsA documentation framework is essential for any large project hence, RUP describes how to document functionality, constraints, design decisions and blood requirements. Use Cases and Scenarios, are examples of artifacts prescribed by the process and have been found to be very effective at both capturing functional requirements and providing coherent weave throughout the development and deployment of the system.Use component based architectureComponent Based Architecture creates a system that is easily extensible, promotes software reuse and intuitively understandable. A component often relates to an object in Object Orientated Programming. The RUP provides a systematic way to build this kind of system, focusing on producing an untimely executable architecture before committing full resources on a project.

Description, Function, Attribution, and Analysis of a Red-figure Type B
The durability of clay has brought forth an immense abundance of Greek pottery, a craft mastered by Athenian artists. Archeologists have found hundreds of varieties in creation, shape, function, style, and artwork in Archaic vases. The museum has been blessed with one of these priceless artifacts it is the duty of this establishment to accumulate as much data as possible surrounding the vase. In first identifying technique, dimensions, and condition, as well as describing shape, ornament, and figural scenery, one may then begin to analyze the vase. This serves the oecumenic purpose of understanding where the artifact stands in Greek culture and history. Through the examination and research of figural scenes, it is then possible to compare these to other scenes and styles of the akin and other painters. Finally, one can then hypothesize where, why, and how this piece was used. The Athenian vase can be identified as a red-figure Type B Kylix. The extremum of the vase vacillates be tween 12.1 and 12.3 centimeters, and the diameter of the foot is roughly 12.5 centimeters. Whereas the diameter of the mouth varies between 33.1 and 33.5 centimeters, the diameter with handles is close to 41.5 centimeters. The vase is completely restored, a condition in which pieces on the carcass of the vase are glued back together. The bottom of the foot is decorated with subsidiary ornamentation, but the design cannot be distinguished due to the condition of the cylix. A uncommunicative save band runs around the step of the foot. Beneath the artwork is subsidiary ornamentation in the style of circumscribed and horizontal palmettes. A reserved epithelial duct lies where the lower body meets the stem. The body of the kylix joins into the stem without an abrupt junction, and the foot is convex in profile. Along the exterior, two handles curve upwards along opposer sides of the kylix. Both the upper surface and the inside of the handles are reserved, with the area of the body be hind them. The single figural scene on the front body of the kylix roughly depicts a battle between centaurs and human characters. It also includes animal figures. Starting from the left, there is a bearded and mustached male centaur with long, pointed ears. Above the waist, his theme and bare torso are human below the waist, his buttocks, legs, and hooves resemble the body of a horse. He clenches a spear from behind in his left h... ...comparing the kylix with those of an earlier and later date, one can see that the Greeks were an extremely progressive culture that could make leaps and bounds in art in only a matter of two decades. Though the ideal Greek concept of hero depicts Heracles as impassive and undaunted in this kylix, Euripides suggests that the society also honored his grounded qualities equivalent love, emotion, and sympathy. These conjectures are an important addition to current knowledge of ancient Greece as archeologists move towards further exciting discoveries. Alan H. Reducing Fraud in Head Start Essay -- Legal Issues, Fraud, Abuse
Allegations of cunning and abuse involving two Head Start nonprofit grantees miscellany been documented in the Midwest and Texas. The strengthening of internal controls and performance measures can reduce the amount of fraud and increase quality services to the nations close to vulnerable children and families. Head Start, an anti-poverty program that dates to the 1960s, provides preschool, social and health services to more than 900,000 children and their families. (Anderson 2010) It receives more than $7 billion in federal funding annually. (Anderson 2010) Undercover investigators have found evidence of fraud and abuse at federal Head Start preschool centers, including cases in which enrollment procedures were manipulated to put potentially ineligible applicants into slots reserved for needier children. (Anderson 2010)The giving medication Accountability Office reported to Congress that investigators posed as families to test whether Head Start centers in six states and th e District of Columbia followed federal rules. In eight of 15 cases, the GAO found, staff members at the centers fraudulently misrepresented financial information from applicants. Literature - Postmodernism, Economic Domination, and the Function of Art :: Literature Essays Literary Criticism
Post modernity Economic Domination and the Function of Art Does aesthetic creativity relate to or influence reality? Does finesse possess the capacity to heal indian lodge? These questions seem implicit to Walker Percys understanding of literature and artistry in general. Literature is a thought-involved process concerned with communication it selves as a moral guidepost to commend society as well as correct it. Literature represents and describes it presents readers with a method of articulating and answer problems in society. So it is clear that redescribing a world is the necessary first step towards changing it (Rushdie 18). Art, in one sense, creates its own political agenda. Percy pursues his diagnostic scheme of literature having reckoned with the basic relationship between language and life. Percy seems to answer the initial two questions posed with a resounding yes. The issue of arts impact upon a society is not quite so easily resolved, however. Not every person writes or thinks about art with the same set of assumptions. In order to put on at the heart of the question what is the purpose of art? we must first identify, understand and appreciate certain fundamental assumptions inquiries, mediating contexts, surrounding the political nature of art and the role of the artist in authentic creativity. I would like to frame my discussion within the apparent struggle between two ideological contexts modernism and postmodernism. Using Percys diagnostic theory of literature to facilitate the discussion, we can examine how modem and postmodern assumptions attempt to shape the purpose of aesthetic creativity. Percys approach to art is inherently modern. He is concerned with unity and truth and achieving them through the creative process. Modernism claims to Speak to some form of ideological absolute, a universal quality. All things at long last move to reveal a unified whole, a universe bathed in Truth. Reason is the primary tool of the modernist. It is privileged above all other humanity faculties. Reason allows humanity to possess knowledge, to know, to assimilate, to unify. Truth and knowledge are hopelessly intertwined. The search for knowledge is thus the search for truth as well. Percy mirrors this modern revere for the power of human thought, when he claims that literature is essentially cognitive. Art is an expansion and extension of the mind. Art is thus actively involved in the search for Truth.

Crime and Punishment Thought Piece
Power is given only to him who dares to stoop and take it one must realize the courage to dare. According to the quote, does it mean that whoever wants the power and steps up and do something to get the power that they want, will get it? It seems like the quote is saying that courage is needed in order to get the power. In otherwise words, power is the authority or strength that one can own. So my next question is, can EVERYONE have the power that they want if they just have the courage to be bold?I dont think the answer is yes. If the world is made that way, it will be way more jumbled than it is right now. That way, the beggars will be able to have the power of authority that they wish to have just by stepping up and be courageous to guerilla. What do you think, would not one tiny crime be wiped out by thousands of good deeds? This quote is so true. Even though you have been good the whole time, your one bad crime will wash away all the good deeds that you were doing the wh ole time, even if that was over 10 years. In Korean phrases, there is a phrase saying that the tower that you were investing in falls It is the phrase that people use when something that they were investing in or trying to do just falls and becomes nothing. I think part of the reason that people only remember one bad crime sooner of thousands of good deeds is because people are potential to remember whats different from others. Just like the college application, if you are different then you will be remembered longer than being all identical.

Civilians and law enforcement should be aware of the basic human rights Essay
In todays society, we live amongst social media and video recordings trying to expose jurisprudence officers and other government officials alike. In reality, what could attend those issues would be to get educated on both sides of the law. What does it mean to have a search secondment? ar you allowed to be searched without a warrant? These are basic human rights that both a civilian and civil service worker should know which all hit back to criminal procedure. When searching, search and seizure into the United States Code, there were a ton of things that turned up, scarce one stuck out an article titled, 16 USC 706 Arrests search warrants. Now, I have seen countless videos on YouTube of people screaming that police are unlawfully searching them without their permission, Im sure we all have, but Ive always wondered who was in the wrong. Was it really the civil service workers fault? Were those people right? This article states that the only way someone is allowed to be searched , and consequently arrested, without a warrant is if a police officer visually sees a crime being committed. This makes perfect sense for example, prostitution. If a police officer pulls up to a prostitute and they offer that officer services, there is no reason for the officer to get a warrant. The prostitute has already committed the crime, which the officer has witnessed foremost hand. It goes on to state, then, that an officer can search anyone and anything IF they have a search warrant which can be obtained from the judge. But what happens when a person still doesnt want to be searched? That lead me to the joint article titled, 18 USC 2231 Assault or resistance. It is a normal reaction, when a stranger enters your home, to be a bit taken aback. This article, however, talks about what happens when a legal search and seizure take place and a citizen resists and/or assaults an officer. When an officer has a warrant to search and/or seize some of your property, there is nothing y ou can do. Though, if you decide to take physical action against that officer, even using a insidious weapon, you could be imprisoned for up to ten years. These are just glimpses into some of the United States Codes that make up our criminal procedure and our everyday laws. There is a whole process both parties have to go through when a suspected crime is committed. Not only are these codes in place to help police officers, but to protect a citizen from unlawful treatment. Criminal procedure is meant to help both parties and, hopefully, with a little bit of education, that message can be spread throughout the United States.ReferencesWorrall, J. L. Defending the Play Trifle Essay
In the ladder, Trifles by Susan Glaspell, is about a strike mystery of Mr. Wright. The men the court attorney, sheriff, and Mr. Hale, a neighorbor to the Wright family, and the women the sheriffs wife, Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Hale, solve the mysery in two very different ways. The men show up at the house as a crime scene, and only focusing on the bigger, Copernican elements of a murder mystery. As Mr. Hale was trying to explain everything he saw in the house that morning of Mr. Wrights death, he said She was rockin suffer and forth. She had her apron in her hand and was kind of pleating it (1154). Meanwhile, Mr. Hale was looking for Mr. Wright, Mrs. Wright was kind of subtle and said you cant. Mr. Hale was confused. All she said thusly was he has been murder. All three men go upstairs to talk and investigate the body. One the otherhand, the women approach the house as a home, and focusing on the trifles, meaning small detail or unimportant, such as baking mess, unfinished sewing, an d unwashed pans & cleaning. As the women are worried about Mrs. Wrights trifles in the house the men like to make fun of them. For example, Hale stated, Well, women are used to worryin over trifles (1156). Mrs. Wright loved making preserves as her fruit froze in the freezer and made a big mess that the two women were worried about, so the sheriff said Well, can you beat the women Held for murder and worryin about her perserves (1155). In society, as you can see, men tend to ingore the womens world, blind to the truth before their eyes. A critic once said Trifles is a lousy play because by the third page we already know who done it, so there isnt much reason the sit through the rest of the play.A murder mystery does not have to keep the reader in suspense to who the culprit was, but why the culprit did it. The key element in the play Trifles is motive, the reason or emotion that drives a person to do something. What made Mrs. Wright drive to kill her husband? As the men look for any viable motive, the women talk to one another about Mrs. Wright. They end up finding a bird cage with a broken door, but they find no bird. Another possible movite uncovered by the women is the discovery of the dead bird. They found the bird, dead, somebody had strangled the bird. So, just because a murder happens early, does not make it a bad play.Works CitedX.J. Kennedy. Dana Gioia. LITERATURE An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, Drama, and Writing. Trifles. 12 ed. Balance is a key design principle that is represented in art in terms of symmetrical and asymmetrical balance
Balance is one of the most crucial principles in arts domain. There are two kinds of equalizer namely the symmetrical and stooped balance. Artists basically depends on balance when they are trying to create visual weight on their works. Key elements apply in order to achieve balance are lines, shapes as well as color. Symmetrical balance often goes with the name formal balance whereas asymmetrical balance is also known as informal balance. In order to know which kind of balance is used by an artist one needs an complex number line at the center of the artwork. Formal balance is defined as something which depicts similar things from both sides of your imaginary line. In informal balance on the different hand both sides of imaginary lines contain different things and thus the other side devourms to be a little heavier as compared to the other side. Informal balance is more psychological in nature in that it is usually felt rather than noticed. Most of Da Vincis works contains symme trical balance. Da Vincis resemblance of the Human fingerbreadth is highly symmetrical in nature. This particular work depicts how a human body could create different shapes such as circle, square, and triangle. In this particular work Da Vinci created balance by creating appropriate proportion which gave birth to balance. The appearance of symmetrical balance in the Proportion of the Human Figure could be attributed to the fact that there had been an approximate symmetry in this particular work.As compared to Leonardo Da Vinci, Deborah Butterfield uses more asymmetrical balnce on her works rather than symmetrical. An typeface of asymmetrical balance on her work could be found on her Verde. By drawing an imaginary line at the center we could basically see that the one side is heavier than the other and they depict different things as compared to Da Vincis Proportion of the Human Figure. In this particular work Butterfield used firebrand to achieve her desired end.The head of the horse seems to be weightless since it seems like merely a stick protruding as compared to its body which seems to be wide-cut of steel and thus appears heavier. This technique allowed her a great example of depicting asymmetrical balance in art. Describe and Compare the Two Forms of Cubism
According to the Tate Gallerys exposition (1979) Cubism has remained the most important and influential movement of the 20th century, notwithstanding the movements short duration. According to Read (1994) the major period for Cubism was from 1907 to 1914, with Picasso and Braque as the main originators of the movement. The rationale for the Tates statement is given as the impostureists associated with Cubism took some of the most crucial steps towards overchargeion, and this extreme development has become the archetype of by and by revolutionary movements (p. 84).The movement, according to Read, was the first abstract style of the 20th century, and named by the art critic Louis Vauxcelles, who took up a remark by Matisse about Braques little cubes (p. 100). angiotensin converting enzyme source (artlex. com) cites Vauxcelles as saying M. Braque scorns form and reduces everything, sites, figures and houses, to geometric schemas and cubes. One of the most innovative developments i s that the creators of Cubism sought to replace a single view head and light source, normal within the western art world since the Renaissance, with a a lot more(prenominal) complete stand foration of any object, combining many aspects.Initially colours were temporarily abandoned and radiation patterns were simplified and flattened. Space was furthermore rendered by message of oblique lines and overlapping forms (The Tate Gallery, 1979). According to Belton (2002, p. 109) Picasso and Braque both struggled with the problem of representing three dimensional objects and figures in the two dimensional medium of characterisation their solution was to create an abstract form that could display two or more sides of an object simultaneously.Whilst Picassos Demoiselles dAvignon is generally viewed as the first cubistic painting, Read (1994) argues that the painting might be more usefully viewed as pre-Cubist, or proto-Cubist, as it was so heavily influenced by Iberian or Afri mickle a rt. Cezannes later browse is often viewed as the catalyst for the development of Cubism, and Read cites Cezannes advice to Bernard to deal with nature by means of the cylinder, the sphere and the cone (p. 100). Cezanne, by believe his eyes and attempting to express natural, binocular vision, allowed for the truth of the shifted viewpoint (Moszynska, 1990).Cubism gives the artist a authority of depicting the world in a musical mode that goes beyond what can be seen, and attempts to deal with the energies of objects. According to Read (1994) Cubism could be categorized into various divisions, including analytic, hermetic and synthetic. This essay will mainly concentrate in the analytic and synthetic forms of Cubism. The term hermetic refers to the largely or wholly indecipherable way of representing an object in the flatter type of abstraction, as classifiable of both Braques and Picassos later way of working. In this chassis the allover pattern became more important. Other sourc es (including artlex. com) refer to analytic cubism as facet cubism. Analytical and semisynthetic Cubism acquired their names through the comments by art historian Einstein, and in effect are retrospective labels. Einstein wrote that the simplistic distortions employed by Picasso, as typified by his portrait of Gertrude Stein, led to a period of analysis and fragmentation and finally to a period of synthesis (as cited in rear, Krauss, Bois and Buchloh, 2004, p. 106).The analytical phase of Cubism, as developed by Braque and Picasso, was characterised by a number of different features, starting with the contraction of the painters palettes, away from the full colour spectrum to rather monochrome selections, which bring up et al. term abstemious. The second characteristic is the extreme flattening of the opthalmic space, as though a roller had pressed all the volume out of the bodies (ibid. , p. 106). The three characteristic identified by Foster et al. is the visual vocabulary used to describe the physical remains of this explosive process (p. 06).Foster et al. illustrate these features with Picassos portrait of Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler (1910) and Bracques painting The Portuguese (The Emigrant, 1911-12). The grey or tonal scale, the traditional tool of representing volume, is used very differently by the Cubists. Kahnweiler, the art head teacher who exhibited both Braque and Picassos work, identified the bringing about the unity of the pictorial object as the exclusive concern of Cubism (Foster et al. , 2004, p. 107).Kahnweilers view as upheld by Greenberg, who saw Analytical Cubism as the fusion between two types of flatness the depicted flatness, shoving the fragmented objects closer to the surface, and the literal flatness of that surface (ibid. , p. 109). Foster and his colleagues however question this they note a number of differences between the evident intentions of Braque and Picasso in relation to the flat plane, with Picasso, being more tactile, more focussed on exploring the possibilities of using Cubism for sculpture, and Braque more concerned with transparency.Steinberg too, urged against the blurring of Picasso and Braques pictures. The two exponents of Cubism saw themselves as being roped together like mountaineers in their exploration of this new way of working, with the ebullient Spaniard referring to Braque as his wife. However, Braque was loyal to passage, the exert of visual slippage between adjacent elements, whereas Picasso, according to Foster et al. , had an overwhelming concern with a undeveloped kind of depth (ibid, p. 109).Picasso seemed more focused on making depth tactile, as Foster et al. demonstrate with showing Picassos central plunging depth in Houses on the hill Horta de Ebro (1909). They go on to argue that Braque is more concerned with the diaphanous quality of Cubism, with the loss of traditional notions of figure and ground The Tate Gallery (1979, p. 85) presents Braques Clarinet and a Bottle of Rum on a Mantelpiece (1911) as a crucial point in Cubism, when the breaking down of objects had been carried to a point very close to complete abstraction. After this point Braque and Picasso started to introduce areas of wood-graining, the use of collage, and a re-introduction of colour, thereby representing objects in a more recognisable, but as well more symbolic way. According to Gersh-Nesic (n. d. ) Synthetic Cubism integrates high and low art (art made by an artist combined with art made for commercial purposes, such(prenominal) as packaging), and according to some can be considered the first Pop Art. Even before 1912 Braque and Picasso had introduced stenciled lettering into their paintings. These stencils were not fine art, they were used for packaging and pothouse signs. The stencils draw attention to the surface of the canvas, since the uniform letters appear independent of whats painted underneath them. Two technical innovations exemplify new development in Cubism papi er colle and collage. Papier colle involves sticking coloured paper onto the canvas and was invented by Braque. Collage was developed by Picasso, and involved sticking all sorts of materials, such as leather, newspaper, material and rope, onto the surface. viscid different materials, such as woodgrain, onto the surface of the painting playfully confused what was real and what was an illusion (Tate, n. d. ).New, provocative questions are raised with the use of collage, namely what is more realistic, to perfectly simulate the look of a newspaper in oil paint, or to stick actual newspaper onto the canvas? (Tate, n. d. ). Wadley (1970, p. 13) holds that technically and conceptually Synthetic Cubism was a denial of the European tradition, in that the surface was now the furthest point from the spectator, not the nearest. Artists working in a synthetic way started with the terms of painting, and from them composed an image which they could justly claim was more real, since it in no sense distorted or imitated something else (ibid. p. 14).Gris, who was the clearest formulator of cubist theory, stated I work with the elements of the intellect, with the imagination. I try to make concrete that which is abstract. I proceed from the general to the particular, by which I mean that I start with an abstraction in revise to arrive at a true fact. Mine is an art of synthesis, of deduction. (ibid. , p. 129) Gris was called a demon of logic by Apollinaire. Indeed, his way of working and thinking was different from his Cubist colleagues.According to Wadley the integration in Gris work is moneyeder than in comparable Picassos or Braques. Gris used collage only in his paintings, and its effect is always to strengthen the austere division of the surface. There is no hint of Picassos ragged edges and random encounters, nor of Braques simple elements floating in a spacious arena. The total effect is of tight concentration. (Wadley, 1970, p. 82)Gris meticulous style is evident in how he has painstakingly arranged the letters in Le Matin in Man in the Cafe, to correspond with the colored columns and echo the horizontal line elow (ibid). Foster et al. (2004) make a semiotic reading of Picassos use of material in his Violin (1912) the twin pieces of newspaper publisher paper represent on the one hand the frontal, opaque (wood of the violin), as well as the transparent, amorphous ground (background colour). They go on to claim that a similar visual play of meaning is evident in Picassos Bottle of Vieux Marc, Glass and Newspaper (1913), where a piece of wallpaper is used to represent the liquid in the glass, the rim of the glass, and the ground of the table-cloth.The cut out piece used for the liquid (looking like a chefs top hat) represents transparency, whilst the negative shape left by the incision represents the solid stem of the glass. The viewer might be left with the question whether the ever playful Picasso was just enjoying a visual pun, or whether he intended any of this to be read as signs. The artist himself stated Mathematics, trigonometry, chemistry, psycho-analysis, music and whatnot, obligate been related to cubism to give it an easier interpretation. All this has been excellent literature, not to say nonsense, which brought bad results, blinding people with theories. (Wadley, 1970, p. 128) During its lifetime both Analytical and Synthetic Cubism encompassed and influenced many artists the most notable of these being Leger, the three Duchamp/Villon brothers, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Gleizes and Metzinger (who print a book on Cubism). For some of these artists Cubism functioned as a transition, although Picasso would hold that Cubism is neither a seed, nor a foetus, but an art dealing primarily with forms, and when a form is realized it is there to live its own life (Wadley, p. 28).It led artists like Piet Mondrian to what he saw as its logical end, complete abstraction. Cubism may have been short-lived as a movement, but it continues to influence contemporary art to this day. Collage, for instance, has become a widely practiced form of art. And in terms of form, the practice of reducing everything to the cylinder, the sphere and the cone was brought to mind on viewing some of Manolo Valdes work, in an exhibition in The Hague this summer.

Psychology and education in the twentieth century Essay
The twentieth century was innovative in a multiplicity of fields, including psychology and education. The undertake to develop the understanding on how humans learn was a ch whollyenge upheld by a huge and diverse cast of characters (Harr, 2005 p7), with some so productive that they didnt only affect the classroom but pass water left an enduring mark on our understanding of ourselves (Harr, 2005 p7). For this essay, I will describe and invent on the theories of Burrhus Fredrick Skinner and Jerome Bruner, particularly foc employ on Operant Conditioning and Cognitive Learning and apply them to an educational setting.Jerome Bruner (1915-2016) is renowned as one of the well-nigh significant and influential cognitive and constructivist theorists of the twentieth century and specifically developed the study of the mental processes of thinking (Harr, 2005 p49). His initial focus was the development of human information but psychology at Harvard, according to Bruner had be hang centri fugal (Bruner,1983 p252). In turn, this led Bruner to begin his exploration into child cognitive development, heightening the importance of salmagundi in learning as well as challenge the old psychology in the latter years of the 20th century (Harr, 2005 p.60)Bruner was highly influential in educational thinking, especially after the release of his book The Process of Education (1960) that is now recognized as a classic. Himself and other cognitivist theorists such as Piaget were both interested in child development, and Bruner agreed with Piaget that biological organisation underlies cognitive development but queried whether age ranges were correct in his developmental full point theory and believed that it paid insufficient attention to the role of social interaction (Olson, 2005 p.25).Similarly to Bruner, I do not believe that a childs age always indicates their level of understanding. Limited description is offered of a childs learning necessities, capability level, or motivat ional influences all of which will have an impact on their understanding. I believe that this is a notion that still hasnt been explored deeply enough and has a negative impact on our education today, as some students are still failing as the curriculum is generalised the exam boards adopt common ways of working (Ofqal,2017).The Eminent Harvard Psychologist has contributed greatly towards psychology overall, but his works have been most recognized in education he felt that it was substantial for a learner to attain the central values of a subject his theory generally expressed that learners develop new ideas and concepts ground upon existing knowledge correspondingly to Piaget, he used 3 phases to develop his theory on modes of representation (how a learner may think of an object). Each mode is foremost at different stages of development, but all are present throughout the process. The first stage (1-18 months), was termed inactive. Thinking is utterly based on the childs physica l actions rather than their inner(a) thinking. This mode is continuously seen in the later years, an example of that would be when a child is learning how to get dressed for school or ride a bike. The second mode begins to develop when a child reaches 18 months and was named iconic, and is mainly obtained via pictures or icons. These are mainly based on the five senses (hear, touch, smell, visualise). In an educational setting, diagrams and/or voices are often useful when introducing a new topic. The third stage, mainly reached at the age of 6 is symbolic and is primarily based on the use of symbols. Language also serves the purpose of regulation in this stage as children develop, they shift from being external to being internal in cognitive processes. Using language as a symbol is essential to develop the capacity to think in abstract terms. Based on this three-stage notion, Bruner recommended using a combination of concrete, pictorial and then symbolic activities which will lea d into more effective learning. This remains true even for adult learners. The theory is conceptually useful in teaching, as it allows staff to engage with all learners regardless of their cognitive level. With a range of supplies (study materials, activities, and tools), a new topic can be taught easily as it can begin as a concrete representation, and eventually end as an abstract one. This also provides learners something they can return to if they come across any problems with the matter. A primary example would be to engross the learners to do physically create 3D shapes. The following exercise would be an illustration of a shape, and the names of the shapes would aurally be read out and explained by the tutor. Thirdly, the learners should discuss the concept of the lesson and discuss any findings. Not only is this a off the beaten track(predicate) more gradual and realistic way of learning, I believe it also encourages motivation something Bruner felt strongly about The act of grasping the meaning, significance or structure of a problem or a situation without explicit reliance on the analytic apparatus of ones craft (Bruner, 1966 p.) For Bruner, the purpose of education is not to impart knowledge, but instead to facilitate a childs thinking and problem solving skills which can then be transferred to a range of situations.Bruners notions and concepts have been rejected and critiqued by other theorists. For example, Piaget trusts that patience is necessary to reach the stage where a child is ready, whereas Jerome Bruner believes that the speed of cognitive development process can be increased if necessary. Unlike Piaget who was resistant to criticism, sticking to a fixed position in the face of theoretical objections and observational refutations (Harr, 2005 p57), Bruner was unafraid of words like mind, and expectation, and perception, and meaning (Miller, 2003 p.142). Bruner places a broader focus on his theory and attempts to be more open-minded and tak e a variety of studies into narration

Management Case Study: 15% Employee Payroll Decrease
I hope all is well since our last meeting. As we grant recently been confronted with financial difficulties within Austen Pharmaceuticals, I lease given extensive consideration in devising an effective plan for adequately addressing the directional of decreasing payroll by 15% and am prep bed to share my prospective solution. As this transition allow for directly impact the employees, I energize met with them to apprise them of the proposed cuts that have been presented and will ultimately take place. In an effort to maintain morale and make this evolution as seamless as possible for the employees, I have incorporated some of their ideas and suggestions in constructing the plan to decrease the payroll while preserving the workforce. After reviewing the most current performance evaluations for each employee, I have established a ranking system that rates each employee based on their overall performance in addition to any individual contributions that they have made which resulted in more efficiency within our division.By rating the employees based on performance, this provides a reference point to determine the most productive employees versus those who are marginal in the event that lay-offs are inevitable. The first step in fulfilling the objective of the plan is to immediately eliminate overtime and have salaried ply help out where possible to complete the work.Next, is to restructure or reduce the amount of hours that each employee works while allowing them to maintain their benefits. The more productive employees will work during peak hours and the average staff will work duringoff-peak hours. This will allow for the work to be completed while utilizing our best resources when the workflow is the highest. The net step in the plan is to cut pay for each employee based on their performance. The pay cuts will be based on the rankings providing a 1% cut for the best performance and a 3% cut for those who are within the lower rankings. This will allow for our best performer to be acknowledge for their efforts while meeting the needs of the company. Additionally, this will allow our average performers to maintain employment while striving to improve performance.

By the time students come through the Third Form, I realize that students need to be stimulated and advocated to participate well in group and class discussions as some students fail to give responses due to lack of stimulating readings and little self esteem. My Experience in Islam Worship Essay
My first piffle to Islam hero-worship as I rec each(prenominal) happened three years ago through a Islamic friend who invited me to observe their worship. Prior to my first visit, I often hear through a clamorously speaker something like an utterance but as well seem like a song glide slope from a Mosque non so far from where I live. Of course, every holiness has their own way of expressing their religion but I should say Islam is quite unique in a sense that worshippers demonstrate darksome sense of respect and homage to Allah. Islam was born in the City of Mecca around 570 A. D.through the prophet Mohammad. Esposito (2002) tell that in the sixth century, Mecca was emerging as a sweet commercial center with vast new wealth but in like manner with a growing division between rich and poor, challenging the traditionalistic system of Arab tribal values and social security(p. 7). According to Esposito, it was this time and social condition in which prophet Mohammad preache d the message of Quran which formed the basis for the religion we know as Islam calling all to return to the worship of the current immortal and a socially just society (Esposito 2002, p.7).Like Christianity, Islam religion has a funda manpowertal claim of its origin from the Bible. Islamics also believe that God sent revelations first to Moses, thusly to savior. Esposito aptly stated that Muhammad is not considered the founder of the new religion of Islam but like the biblical prophets who came earlier him, he was a spectral reformer (p. 7). Mohammad himself harmonise to Esposito claim that he did not bring a new message from a new God but called people back to the one true God and to a new of life they had forgotten or deviated from.Islams claim for biblical origins mass be traced from Qurans abundant references to stories in the Old and New Testa manpowerts which included Adam and Eve, Abraham and Moses, David and Solomon, Jesus and Mary. Esposito pointed out that Islam and worship of Allahthe Arabic word for God was a return in the midst of a polytheistic society to the forgotten past, to the Abrahams monotheist faith. During my first attendance to Islam worship, one thing that I spy was that they bowed down with their face al well-nigh if not touching the ground. As far as I am concern, there is no religious organization doing the same, not raze the Jews who had probably the most unintelligible concept of worship. Though I am quite aw atomic number 18 of this manner of worship, I was really intrigued how they had real such(prenominal) way of expressing their faith and humiliation before God. I found that for Islam, the meaning of worship is more(prenominal) than just rendering sincere service, or showing reverence for Allah. Abdul-Rahman (2003) emphasized that worship implies total entranceway and complete obedience to Allahs command handsts both in utterances and cosmos actions, whether explicit or implicit and in private or public (p.331) .As I observed the way Islamics conduct themselves in public worship, their manner proves they indeed a deep devotion and submission to Allah. According to the teachings of Quran, bowing down of heads during worship and during prayer is part of the distinction of the followers of Mohammad who is the messenger of Allah. The Quran teaches, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those who are with him are strong against disbeliever, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down savourless(prenominal), seeking bounty from Allah and his good pleasure. The mark of them is on their faces from the traces of prostration. This is their description in the Tawraat (Torah) al-Ahzaab 3340 (As cited by Abdul-Rahman, p. 177). On my visit at a Sunni Muslim Mosque, I noticed that contrary to other non-Sunni Muslims, the manner of prayer and worship of the Sunni Muslims are a little here and now different as they would stand, kneel, or mat when worshipping or praying. Howeve r, what was intriguing in their manner of worship was that when they prostrate themselves in prayer and worship, they face in the direction of Mecca.Although the concept of this practice was not new as during Israels Babylonian captivity in 570 BC, Prophet Daniel was thrown into the lions den for praying three times a day face Jerusalem (Daniel 6 11). For Muslims both Sunni and non Sunni, praying facing Mecca is one way of showing devotion to Islam because Mecca is Muslims holy city. OBrien (2007) noted that Muslims pray five times a day while facing Mecca (p. 135). Even in Muslims five pillars of faith, pilgrimage to Mecca is considered as one of the five pillars that a devout Muslim should experience. While this tradition may be viewed by non Muslims as naive yet apparently, it reflects their devotion and obedience to their religion. It shows that Muslims are faithful to their beliefs and tradition and to the founder of Islamic religion and Mecca serves as the symbol of their spi ritual unity. When soulfulness visits a mosque for the first time, what he would likely to see are people chatting quietly or napping on the carpets and are praying and reading the Quran. But what could be more surprising perhaps is the main prayer or worship area, which is just a large open put with no pews or benches. intimately of us are used to see pews and benches and expensive as well as sophisticated church facilities such as organ, drum set, piano and all church equipments adorning the main worship hall once we are at heart the church either Christian or Roman Catholic Church. In Islam, although mosque is the sacred space for individual and congregational worship and it serves as places for prayer, meditation and learning yet unlike most Christian churches, the space is devoid of any equipment as Muslims simply bow down or kneel when they bring forth to pray or worship. The interior of the mosque is simple and austere. There is no altar and no sanctuary, and there is even no clergy to deliver sermons nor are there any seats. Visitors to Sunni mosque can observe worshippers may stand, bow, kneel, or prostrate themselves, but they do not sit in the House of God. The rational behind all this, correspond to Bernard Lewis and Buntzie Ellis Churchill (2008) is that the act of worship includes prostrations, to the point where the worshippers forehead touches the ground (p. 40).Lewis & Churchill (2008) described their observation of the Muslim prayer and worship in mosque as follows To participate in the ritual prayers, Muslims must be ceremoniously pure. This is accomplished by means of ablutions, the manner and sequence of which are specifically regulated. To preserve the purity of the decorate on which the worshipper prostrates himself, it is forbidden to enter the mosque wearing shoes or boots. These must be left at the entrance, and the worshipperor, fro the matter, visitormust enter barefoot or with special slippers provided at the entrance. The c onsider to for purity precludes the participation or even the presence, during the prayers, of non-Muslims (p. 41). Aside from empty space, first time visitor to Mosque could also observed that there were no liturgies, but all prayers and recitations of verses from Quran. However, conversing with any mature Muslim, one could learn that Muslims effect worship five times daily. Speaking of worship, Browen (993) observed, The rituals begin with ablutions, after which the worshipper, either alone or in congregation, performs two, three, or four raka or worship cycles in the direction of Mecca. Each the worshipper executes a fix sequence of movements (Standing, Prostrating, kneeling, sitting), each accompanied by a fix Arabic recitation (p. 291). The recitations according to Browen include praises of God, affirmations of his oneness, a general request for divine guidance, and, at the beginning of each cycle, two or more verses from Quran. I could affirm this observation because during my own visit to Sunni Muslim worship, I personally spectator pump how they demonstrate their devotion to Allah. In comparison to worship perform in most Christian churches I could say that Muslim worship is deeply grounded on loyalty, devotion and reverence to God. In Christian churches, we could not deny that most of us are looking for comfort and even for entertainment once inside the church. We cannot bear long hours of worship service particularly on listening to the preaching of the word of God. Most of us we enjoy the singing of joyful Christian music but felt board during most of the service hours. In Muslim worship, one can observe that everyone sincerely performs worship to Allah.Browen pointed out, Worshippers may also add petitionary prayers to the recitations. Worship should be performed five times daily at first light, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset, and iniquity (p. 291). The Friday noon worship consists of a sermon and two worship cycles, and should be performed in congre gation. It also has a prayer leader and a sermon giver. But one of the most notable things for the first timer in mosque worship is that one will find that worshippers are either all men or all women. This is perhaps common in all mosque worship. The reasons for this were quite obvious. Not much about their tradition but about the physical nature of the prayer in which worshippers stand shoulder to shoulder, foot to foot, and which implore the position of prostration. Haddad, metalworker & Moore (2006) noted the arguments on the insularism of men and women during worship in Mosque. Citing statements from Muslim women, Haddad, Smith & Moore wrote, Very few Muslim women say that they want to worship side by side with men (p. 63). I dont want men to look at me like that and be disconcert from their attention to God, nor do I wish to look directly at the rear parts of men during prayers goes the arguments. In some sense, this separation of sexes is a little different from other relig ions that also practiced separation of sexes during worship. Most religions practicing the separation of sexes are concern merely about the setting arrangements and not entirely excluding women in the same area, whereas worship in mosque gives preference on men at the main worship area, thereby promoting mens supremacy over women. Haddad, Smith, and Moore stated, When space is severely limited, women may find themselves worshipping in less desirable areas such as hallways or basements (p.64).My visit in Sunni Muslim worship, although there might and be very slight if none at all, differences between Sunni and non-Sunni Muslims, greatly impressed me because I realised how zealous are the Muslims in their faith in God. I realized that their motives of worshipping God are theater and simple but the manner they worship demonstrates how deep their devotion to Allah is. Their effort to focus their attention to God is admirable as they cannot be perhaps equaled by todays worship both by Catholics or Christian worship. Many will find Muslim womens clothing for example as weird and burdensome, but most Muslim women prefer wearing their hijab in order to avoid seducing men by their physical form. For most Muslim women, styles of clothing made exactly what they are expected to be a model for her gender and her faith. To sum up my observation, the worship I had seen was full of unfamiliar religious observance yet they all reflect profound expression of faith in God which is decrease in many Christian worship today.Abdul-Rahman, M. Poe’s “The Black Cat” as an Example of Gothic Story
Poes The Black mold as an Example of Gothic Story Edgar Allan Poe, who lived a short and tragic life, was mainly known for his black letter stories embedded in the atmosphere of terror and suspense, with insane protagonists placed in gloomy settings. He is considered to be a horror-master and his literary output renders him a father of the detective narration and ane of the most turgid Gothic story writers (Fisher 2004 81). The Black regorge, first published in 1843 in The Saturday Evening Post (Sova 2007 35), is matchless of many visible instances of Poes talent in writing gothic simile.Beyond the shadow of a doubt, it is an exquisite example of a gothic story due to its numerous features characteristic of this genre (Hayes 2004 85). Although gothic fiction is a genre which was born in England at the end of the 18th century, it was soon substantially-received in the united States, where it influenced a wide array of writers. It was primarily based on the European Romanti c Movement b arely over the manikin of time, tragic and supernatural dimensions were added to these stories as the leading themes in America. The genre has a twist of characteristics, superstar and only(a) of which is the setting.Main protagonists are usually placed in an old, abandoned castle, with secret chambers and passages. The action of gothic stories take place in dark, spooky and dismal places. The plot is very often mysterious and around unexplainable events occur on regular basis. Gothic authors render to produce an atmosphere of suspense in their works by creating unpredictable characters, who struggle with madness, anger and acts of panic, in order to threaten the readers. The characters state of mind, their feelings and emotions, often take precedence over the plot.Ghosts and supernatural events are more than than common in gothic texts and so are the tormenting visions and unlucky omens that often haunt the main characters. What is more, female characters who appear in such stories, for instance, are often put in distress, threatened and dominated by enraged males (Childs and Fowler 2006 99-100). The Black Cat is a story narrated by an unnamed storyteller who at the very showtime, claims to be totally sane and quick-scented and states that he is sentenced to death and will be bug outed the following day. Thus, he wants to reveal his dark secrets and make a confession to unburthen his soul (Badenhausen 1992 487). From the start, the reader is made to perceive the fabri computerized tomographyor as an average man who loves his married woman and is a great admirer of wildcats. The story, set in an ordinary house with nameless characters, changes over the course of the action into a thorough description of the vote counters mental state and his acts of madness. Still, no march on details on the lives of the main protagonists, including their profession or age, are provided as the story unfolds. The storyteller, due to his dependence to alcohol, becomes an abusive monster who ends up murdering his married woman part attempting to kill the cat (Fisher 2004 209). The narrators wife is a character whose love to animals, as opposed to her husband, is unconditional and unwavering. By following the gothic rule of literature, The Black Cat goat be read as a story of the clash of maleness and femininity (Fisher 2004 86). One of features of the gothic fiction, as mentioned supra, is presenting the female character in distress.Gothic writers very often try to present the relations between the tyrannical and impulsive male and a feeble and helpless female. The narrator in The Black Cat was, as a young boy, a very tender and subtle man (Stark 2004 260). Nonetheless, his behavior over the course of time changed drastically. Heavy drinking alters his life as well as the lives of his nearest ones including his wife and pets. Still, no information on why the narrator hits the bottle is habituated in the text (ibid 260-261). The shift in his behavior is very abrupt and unexpected. The plot progresses so quickly that it is hard to see when exactly the storyteller becomes a mad man. I grew, day by day, more moody, more irritable, more regardless of the feelings of others. The bullied wife faces the acts of violence of her husband tacitly and she seems to be subordinated by him, by chance even afraid of rebelling against him. The couple does not collapse any children and the wife has no one who would hurt her and stand up for her in front of her cruel spouse (Bliss 2009 97 Badenhousen1992 493 Sova 2007 36). The narrator bluntly says, I now blindly abandoned myself, my uncomplaining wife, alasWas the most usual and the most patient of sufferers. Pluto, the animal from the title and, simultaneously, the object of the narrators madness, is a key character in the story. In the narrators mind, his favorite pet turns all of a sudden from a lovely little adept into a beast which frightens him. A faithful and sagacious cat, as described at the beginning, apply to be the best playmate of the narrator. For many long years, they enjoyed spending time together. The horror of the pets and the wife begins when the narrator starts to drink alcohol.Nevertheless, he admits that he is aware of the dramatic change in his behavior caused by the habituation and he sees that he has started treating his wife and his pets badly (Sova 2007 36). One night, after returning home drunk, the narrator gouges the cats eye out using a pen knife. A horrible deed, described in one sentence, is followed by a paragraph starting with When reason returned with morning in which the narrator describes his innate feelings after committing the act and the feeling of guilt which vanishes as soon as he starts drinking again. The above cited sentence proves the narrators awareness of the brutality of his actions, but the subsequent events show that at the like time, he does not feel any remorse (Bliss 2009 97). Still, one morning, not long after slickness out the eye, the narrator, on a spur of a moment, hangs the cat on a tree in the garden. His explanation is utterly illogical with tears in his eyes he says, Hung it because I knew that it had loved me, and because I felt it had given me no reason of offence hung it because I knew that in so doing I was committing a sin (Sova 2007 35).The latter citation clearly proves the Gothicism of the story. A mad man murders an innocent cat exactly because it was good. A deed so illogical that it cannot be explained rationally. One bloody act, aimed at playing on emotions, giving a thrill, kindling the feeling of terror and cruelty in readers, is tho a beginning of the murdering path that the narrator takes (Bliss 2009 98). The night after committing the deadly sin the fire breaks up, burning down the nursing home place of the storyteller, destroying his fortune, and leaving him in despair. The next day, a strange figure, an apparition of a gigantic cat, appears on the wall, the only wall that survived the fire. To explain the strange figure on the wall, the narrator suggests that the cat was thrown to the room by someone at the night of the fire and as he puts it, the falling of other walls compress the victim of my cruelty into the substance of the seraphicly-spread plaster the lime of which, with the flames, and the ammonia from the carcass, had then accomplished the portraiture as I saw it. Not long after killing Pluto, the narrator finds another cat during one of his bar crawls. The cat looks surprisingly familiar it has similar fur in dark color and it lacks one eye, just like Pluto. There is, however, one significant difference between these 2 cats. The fleck one has a white spot on its fur which at first sight, according to the narrator, is just a spot, but with time, it starts to look like gallows to him (Bliss 2009 97). The spot on the cats fur, as well as the sign on the wall after the fire that occurred the night aft er hanging the first cat, can be perceived as an omen a supernatural element in the story. The fate of the second cat is also different than Plutos. Another day, the narrator together with his wife are in the caller doing some housework, an ordinary situation that ends in a dramatic way. The cat, all at once, appears to a lower place his owners feet nearly tripping him over. In the act of an unrestrained rage, the narrator takes an axe attempting to kill the cat- the beast. His wife prevents him from committing the murder and in consequence, the killing punch strikes her head (ibid 98). () I withdrew my arm from her grasp and conceal the axe in her brain. She fell dead upon the spot, without a groan. The narrator in only two sentences describes the killing of his own wife. Not only is he imperturbable after perpetrating the brutal murder, but he also becomes preoccupied with the problem of how to get rid of the body instead of showing some sorrow after his wifes death. He conside rs several possible ideas, even cutting the corpse into mo fragments, and destroying them by fire. The husband, and from now on also the coldblooded killer, considers defacing the body of his once beloved wife just to cover up the entire murder of his. The idea of burying the body in the wall of the wine cellar is a recurring theme in gothic stories. Poe used this idea also in The cask of Amontillado, for example (Badenhousen 1992 490). I had walled the monster up within the tomb The last sentence of the story emphasizes the gothic mystery visible in the work. An act of burying the wife in the wall must have taken the narrator some time. How could he miss the fact that the cat hid itself in the gap while he was immuring his wife? How did the cat manage to survive four days behind the wall without the fresh air and any food? The questions to which answers remain shrouded in mystery are major characteristic of this genre. To recapitulate, the story of the cat and its mad owner is unde niably a masterpiece. Each sentence in the text is significant and each needs a scrutiny to properly interpret the whole work. The gothic literary conclave is mostly visible in the main character, who happens to be the narrator of the story. He scares the reader by being unpredictable, rage-driven and unreliable. Moreover, the stones throw of the story, keeping the reader in a lasting suspense, and the presence of numerous omens make The Black Cat one of many very elaborate examples of Poes gothic stories. Ethical Issues with Sweatshops
Ethical issues regarding Sweatshops Michelle Rice Business Ethics Jacqueline Newkirk Remember when you were at the m altogether the last- repose time and saw a pair of Nike skids that you just couldnt live with proscribed? You had to buy them, for a pricey cost, and just loved them, right? We all hold up owned a pair or two of Nike shoes in our life. They were the cool shoes to submit back when I was in school. The amour that we may not have known is that Nike has been using children as young as fifteen old age old (Jennings, 2012) as employees to take a shit these shoes. In the following report I am issue to go all over some major ethical issues regarding using underage children and women in foreign countries for force. I will break up ab place what the conditions that these people have to work in to sign up paid b atomic number 18ly enough to lead from maven day to the next. The first topic that I would like to talk ab emerge is a abduce coming from Nike when question ed about the conditions of their facilities and the employees that they had working in them. The quote was Were diabolical if we do because we exploit. Were damned if we dont because these foreign economies dont develop. Whos to know whats right? (Jennings, 2012) Well, permits answer that question. First of all you be not damned if you make your product out of the state. Sure, as Ameri quarters we would like the opportunity to have the business be here where we could benefit from the jobs that it would create, but we too understand the need to help these other countries build and grow. Second, how is it helping these other countries if you are pickings their children out of school at the age that they are able to work in a pulverization? Jennings, 2012) Wouldnt the better way to help these countries be to pay them a fair wage and help their children wee a good education so that they earth-closet grow up to help build their country the way that we are wanting them to? And fin ally, I dont know who to say is right in this case, but I do know that Nike was found to make women run laps around the factory for corroding no regulation shoes to work payment of subminimum wages physical beatings, including with shoes, by factory supervisors and or so employees were women between the ages of fifteen and twenty eight courses old. (Jennings, 2012) After having that information, I come back I can safely say that Nike cannot possibly think that they should be the ones that people think are right in this situation. Now, lets go over child labor in general and if it should be allowed. I personally could never employ a child that was under the age of 15 whether it was legal or not. By making these children work in the conditions that they make them work in, for the pay that they give them for this work is not an ethical decision that I could ever live with.In a story about child labor that I found it stated that In the 1990s, child labour has found a new recess in the rapidly expanding export industries of some developing countries. In one small carpet factory in Asia, children as young as five were found to work from 6 in the forenoon until 7 at night for less than 20 cents a day. ( electric shaver Rights, 1995) Can you imagine you five year old child going to work and working for 13 hours? These children have absolutely no childhood and are giving up their education to work so that their families can survive.I think that it is important to have a limit to the hours that a person is allowed to work in one week and that there should be a required minimum wage. Even if it were not a law, if I owned my own partnership I would have these standards in place for every employee that I hired. While it is important for a gild to make a profit, I believe that it is also important for their employees to be healthy and safe in their working environment. When it comes to the wages that are being paid, if you are not up to a standard of income that i s conceptualize or needed from employees, they are going to go and try to find work somewhere else.If this happens the disorder rate at the company would be incredibly high, therefore causing the company to lose gold in the long run. If you are constantly having to hire and train more people you are taking time away from the product that should be being made. So, if you want to keep happy employees that are accustomed to the company that they are working for and making a product that is up to standards that are wanted by the company then they should pay them a respectable wage and keep the hours at the amount that you would expect to work yourself. One of the things that I have stated a few times in this report already is that children are not getting the education that they should be getting because they are being taken out of school to work in these factories or they are just not being sent to a school to begin with. I would make it a top priority to make educational opportunit ies for these children in these countries if I had a business there. I think that it is important that these countries continue to grow and prosper to get as close to the conditions that we live in here in the United States. There is no way that this can happen if we are not sending their children to school. They will have no way to know what to do to run a successful business, only to work nonstop in them. How are they ever going to learn the necessities this way? In todays businesses they are not thinking about this. They are thinking that they can continue to send the employees here from the United States over there to run the businesses. In which case they will never be an independent society able to function on their own.I think that the reason that society focused so much on the Kathi Lee Gifford and Nike issues are because of the fame that they already have and the popularity of the products that they are selling. We see Kathy Lee Gifford as a wholesome all American Actress th at we all love. We all loved the fact that she made a clothing line, and then sold it in an affordable place such as Wal-Mart. Then we realize that the clothes that we love and are finding affordable are being made in sweatshops in Guatemala. Of course this is going to upset people because it is something that no one would have suspected. When it comes to Nike, it is the company that every athlete endorsed and wears most of the time. It is probably one of the most recognizable shoe companies in the United Stated today. I think that the thing that upsets people the most is that it is such an American known shoe, that people feel that it should being produced in America. So as we have learned in this report is that if you want happy, healthy employees, you need to treat them right and pay them the wages that they are real earning. Also, children are our future and if we want our future to be prosperous and continue that way we need to make sure that they are getting the education that they need to run things when we are no longer here. Byzantine Empire Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Byzantine Empire - Essay ExampleThey also had a nap to do with installations and depositions of emperors (Sewter/Psellus 1997). To understand them better, it is important to note that these three Empresses lived at the time following the birth of Christendom, from about 770 to the centre of the second century, when the Roman Empire had its main base and headquarters in Byzantium, a place we now recognise as Istanbul, in Turkey. It was a strategic place, in a prime position on the shore of the important Mediterranean Sea (Sewter/Psellus 1979). Syria, whose cities of Aleppo, capital of Syria and Antioch were centers of trade and knowledge, was so close by that the men - and the important women - of this age and time had a lot of resources at their disposal, both in material wealth and in clever advisors, and this enabled them to mark history with their own names in all matters that had to do with culture, the military and without any doubt, the economy.Chronologically, the first of these women, Irene, was a powerful crowned head in her own right, and it is an indication of her attitude that she chose to call herself by the masculine term Basileus or emperor (Garland 1999). The Effects of Different Structures on Ownership Decisions Essay
The personal effects of Different Structures on Ownership Decisions - Essay ExampleJoint ventures have to be applied in countries where foreign ownership is restricted. Other forms of entry into overseas market are mergers and acquisitions. A merger occurs when an exporter merges with a local company and creates a new unit, while under acquisition the exporting company takes over a domestic company. This research aims to asses the effect of different structures on ownership lasts.According to Raff, Ryan and Stahler (2005), direct exports or Greenfield investment does not change the ownership as it relies on its own assets to produce goods. In the courtship of M&A the foreign staunch acquires the assets of the local target firm and combines them with its own assets but in the case of join ventures, even though the assets are shared, they continue to choose output independently. Thus the decision to invest in another country would depend upon the extent of investment that the host firm wants to make. This implies that the firm heterogeneity would determine the pattern of foreign direct investment. Research suggests that firms with least assets would not like to trouble oneself the ownership and would prefer to directly export their goods. Firms with highest assets choose Greenfield or direct investment.
